When I was in sekolah agama(Johor),my ustazah oftenly used the word kurang cerdik instead of bodoh(dan yg sewaktu dengannya).
Maybe the case just the same as the UK teachers above.It is a psycho matter.
Or maybe my ustazah just wanted to express the word in polite manner. Well,as a malay, we should be polite because Melayu itu terkenal dengan santunnya.
